New York sports fans looking for a one-stop destination for all things basketball and hockey will soon have just that, just in time for the new NBA and NHL seasons.
Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment (GAME), the 50/50 joint digital venture between MSG Networks and YES Networks announced in January, said Wednesday that a Gotham Sports app combining MSG+ and the YES app will launch this fall before the NBA and NHL start their 2024-25 seasons, consistent with speculation at the time GAME was formed.
That means you'll be able to watch Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Sabres and Yankees games all on one app.
Fans in local broadcast areas who already subscribe to MSG and YES through their pay-TV service will have access to the Gotham Sports App at no additional cost.
Fans without a traditional TV subscription can also subscribe to just MSG+ or YES through the new Gotham Sports app, but will receive a discount if they sign up for a combination package.
The Gotham package, which includes both the MSG+ and YES apps, costs $359.99 for an annual subscription or $41.99 for a monthly subscription.
An MSG+-only subscription within the Gotham Sports app will cost $279.99 per year or $29.99 per month, with individual Game Passes available for $9.99.
A YES subscription within the Gotham Sports app costs $239.99 per year or $24.99 per month.
When the Gotham Sports app is released, the current MSG+ and YES apps will be shut down.
Match broadcasts on the Gotham Sports app will come with an advanced live statistics package, free real-time games and a loyalty program with points rewards.
“Through GAME, we're excited to bring New York-area fans their favorite teams in one cutting-edge app,” MSG Network president and CEO Andrea Greenberg said in the release. “With the media outlets broadcasting fans' favorite sports programming becoming more fragmented, the Gotham Sports app will allow fans of our teams to access New York-area sporting events from MSG Network and YES Network through one easy access point.”
The NHL season will kick off on Oct. 4 with the Devils-Sabres Global Series in Prague, while the NBA season will begin on Oct. 22.
