Kangana Ranautis currently promoting his upcoming movie, “Emergency,” and recently shared a funny story about when he was trying to learn to drive. Queen Actor He recounted the time he crashed into an autorickshaw during his first driving test to get his driver's license, and how seeing his classmate Deepika Padukone driving an SUV inspired him to take up driving lessons again, but ended up crashing into a police jeep, which prompted him to decide to give up driving altogether.
Kangana told Mashable India, “I have tried to learn to drive many times but ended up crashing both times I took the driving test. Deepika Padukone and I entered Bollywood at around the same time – she made her debut in 2007 and I in 2006. We went to the same driving school then and we both lived in Bandra at the time.”
Sharing her experience of taking her first driving test, she said, “The first time I took my driving test, I went out in my Santro and crashed into an autorickshaw. The driver came out screaming and realised he had pressed the accelerator twice instead of the brake. The autorickshaw driver got scared and ran away. He must have thought, 'this woman is mad'. Since then, I have given up driving.”
Talking about how seeing Deepika driving motivated her to learn driving again, she said, “Five years later, when I saw Deepika driving an SUV, I thought, 'We went to the same driving school at the same time and she can drive and I still can'. It became a matter of pride so I decided to try again, this time in a BMW. I practised for a week and took my driving test again. But again, I hit something, this time a police jeep. My driver said, 'Madam, I have hit a police car!' I again made the same mistake of hitting the accelerator instead of the brake. At that time, my film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' had just released so the police noticed me. Luckily the police jeep was undamaged and only my BMW was damaged so I asked the police to let me go and they agreed but first I asked my driver to take the wheel for me. After that, I gave up.”
Kangana was last seen in last year's Chandramukhi 2 and Tejas, both of which flopped at the box office. She will now be seen playing former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency, which releases on September 6.
