Zara Samdani, 17, founded the nonprofit Lemons Learn, where she and other instructors help educate girls around the world.
When Zara Samdani visited her parents' native Pakistan with a nonprofit organization, she noticed many young girls outside selling lemons, 6ABC's Matteo Iadonisi writes.
“When I met with girls my age, I was particularly shocked to hear that Pakistan is a progressive country but still has few educational resources,” she said.
The experience inspired Samdani, a 17-year-old student at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, to start his own nonprofit organization.
The nonprofit, called Lemons Learn, provides educational opportunities to girls in underserved areas around the world. Lemons Learn offers online tutoring services that focus on both academics and life skills. Samdani enlisted the help of her siblings and friends to start the nonprofit.
Currently, Lemons Learn has 42 instructors educating 80 students in seven countries.
“It's really rewarding to know that I and the people around me are making such a big impact in these girls' lives,” Samdani said.
They are also running a back-to-school support campaign to help those in need.
