USD 379 Clay County School District has an app for that. Seven years ago, when smart phones started to become commonplace, USD 379 launched its district app for smartphones. The app gives users another way to access district information. The app is easy to use and is easily accessible if you are using a smartphone instead of a laptop. Matt Weller, communications coordinator for USD 379 Clay County Schools, said, “The app has a feed that shows all the news stories that we are putting out, and in my role, you will notice more of that. All the events that are going on in the district are there. You can individually select the schools that your children attend, so you don’t have to look at all the events, just the schools that interest you.”
Like most apps, the app is continually being updated. Weller spoke about changes that have already been made this school year: “This year, we've added all of the certified staff in all of our buildings, so if you want to send an email, you can select that person. The app also shows photos of the staff, so at least you can say, 'I don't know who the staff is at my child's Garfield Elementary School,' and now I can go in there and check.”
Additionally, the app included lunch and breakfast menus for all schools, along with all the documentation from the district's website, broken down by school. Weller says the app is just in a different format that's easier to navigate and has everything in one place. They also added a video on the USD 379 website on how to use the app.
