Google Tasks was updated with Material You in February 2023, and today's major redesign makes the Android app even better.
Tasks previously used the bottom app bar carried over from Material 2, but it has been modernized for Material You. This component, “Display[s] “On mobile and tablet, you'll see navigation and primary actions at the bottom of the screen.” You'll see a FAB for creating new tasks on the right, as well as a list switcher, sorting, and an overflow menu for opening as a sheet.
The bottom app bar is gone, leaving only the floating action button.
Meanwhile, Google has overhauled its main list interface with a card motif: active lists are displayed at the top, with another “Done” card, and sorting options and overflow (for renaming and deleting) appear in the top-right corner.
These cards feature a dark background (dark theme) compared to the rest of the app, and are consistent with the tasks.google.com UI introduced in November.
This is a server-side redesign in Google Tasks for Android version 2024.08.05.x. If you don't see it yet, force stop it from the app info. iOS does not have this improvement.
Regarding exhibit 3, it would be nice if the Google Tasks home screen widget were modernized to more closely match the Google Calendar scheduling widget.
