As the 2024 presidential election rolls around, former President Donald Trump's aides are doing all they can to keep him busy and energized, The Washington Post reported.
Citing anonymous sources, The Washington Post reported that aides were concerned that Trump would spend his time golfing and sulking while Vice President Kamala Harris was in the spotlight at the Democratic National Convention.
As a result, Trump's aides are packing his schedule with events to keep him busy and off the golf course, sources told The Post.
Trump has also grown increasingly frustrated with favorable coverage of his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, especially reports that portray him as less of a hard worker, a source told The Washington Post.
“President Trump has had a busy schedule since first announcing his intention to move forward in November 2022,” spokesman Steven Chang told The Washington Post, adding that the former president “spent all week engaged in substantive policy discussions.”
Several allies have expressed concern about whether Republican candidates can stay on track in their campaigns, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, a former Trump critic turned ally, who said on August 18 that Trump could lose the election if he continues to play the “provocateur and showman.”
Trump's former rival, Nikki Haley, echoed Graham's sentiments in an August 13 interview on Fox News' “Special Report.”
“You're not going to win a campaign by talking about the size of the crowd, you're not going to win by talking about what race Kamala Harris is, you're not going to win by talking about whether she's stupid,” Haley said. “You're not going to win by any of those things.”
Trump secured a minor victory on Friday after independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped his presidential bid and endorsed Trump.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment sent outside normal business hours.
