HEART BUTTE, Montana — The Heart Butte School District is facing unexpected infrastructure issues and will be switching to a distance learning model for four to six weeks.
In addition to distance learning, students can access tutoring and off-site education to fill in any gaps in their learning needs.
“We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we want to assure you that we are taking every precaution to not only ensure the safety of your children, but also to meet the educational needs of all children in our school system. You have entrusted your children to us, and we do not take this responsibility lightly,” Superintendent Marcy Cobell said in a letter to families.
In preparation for this transition, the district has organized a special non-traditional school day on Thursday, Aug. 22. From 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., parents and students can register, receive online schedules, meet with teachers, pick up school supplies and Chromebooks, schedule health screenings, and access mental health support from Blackfeet Tribal Health. Updates on fall sports will also be provided.
Additionally, a Community Feed will be held at the Circle in Heart Butte on Monday, August 26th from 6pm, which will provide an opportunity to ask questions and address community concerns regarding infrastructure issues.
The Heart Butte Board of Trustees, Blackfoot Tribal Business Council, Heart Butte School Administration, Montana and tribal fire chiefs and Heart Butte teachers will be there to offer answers and support.
