A Villager who fled the local Walmart in a BMV will not be charged with shoplifting.
Kathleen Ann Visgario, 63, of Antrim Dells, completed a shoplifting class, paid $75.28 in restitution to Walmart and fulfilled the terms of a pretrial intervention agreement. She is also banned from Walmart stores in Sumter County.
Visgaglio called the Sumter County Sheriff's Office on May 13 and admitted to being a shoplifting suspect. The theft occurred at the Walmart store in Sarasota Plaza. Detectives went to Visgario's home on Day Drive in the early morning hours of May 13 and spoke with her husband, whose BMW had been seen at the Walmart that day.
According to the arrest report, she came into the store on March 28 and selected multiple items. She went to the self-checkout aisle and scanned some of the higher-priced items using the 25-cent barcodes. She used her debit card to pay $17.68 for items that were supposed to cost $92.96. She then took the items to her white BMW X3 and drove away.
Detectives discovered she had used a Wells Fargo-issued debit card for the transaction. The debit card was in her husband's name. A white 2022 BMW X3 was also registered to her husband. A photo run on her driver's license matched surveillance video footage of a woman scanning a 25-cent barcoded item at the self-checkout aisle.
However, the Pennsylvania native avoided prosecution for the theft after successfully fulfilling the terms of her contract with PTI.
