BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. — The Saratoga County History Center has announced the following events to be held this month.
The event will be held at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave. Ballston Spa.
Oct. 23, 7 p.m.: The Saratoga County History Center welcomes Clifton Park Historian John Scherer for a program titled “The Low Bridges of the Erie Canal” in the museum’s Long Room. When the Erie Canal was completed in his year 1825, it was an engineering marvel and was touted as his eighth wonder of the world.
The canal was constructed for 13 miles along the southern border of Saratoga County parallel to the Mohawk River. John Scherer focuses on the history of local sections of the canal using historic photographs, exploring surviving ruins and the colorful local characters who worked on the canal. This event is free and open to the public.
