The teacher, Mr. Li Feng, seemed to be demonstrating the “angular momentum conservation experiment,” which he did twice. I could clearly hear the sounds of the animals as they fell.
“It’s OK to do this to a cat, but you can’t do this to a dog,” Lee tells the students in the video.
After receiving an avalanche of criticism online, Lee apologized for the way she treated her cat named Life.
“As the owner of Life, I ignored the physical and psychological harm to Life caused by the experiment. As a teacher, I ignored the potential for negative effects on my students and others. “He acted in a controversial way,” Lee said.
Lee said after the experiment, she took Rife to a veterinarian for a checkup. He also donated his NT$50,000 (US$1,500) to the Taiwan Homeless Animal Rescue Association.
His pet was adopted from a charity and sleeps in his bed every night.
Lee said she understands Rife was scared during the experiment and hopes the cat will forgive her.
He turned to his cat and said, “To show you how sorry I am, I’m going to buy you the best cat food.”
However, many people on social media are still outraged by his actions.
“As a cat owner, don’t you feel heartbroken when your cat falls on the floor?” one online observer asked.
“You’re a cat abuser. You’re teaching your students to do bad things,” said another.
Cat abuse is a common topic on social media.
Last year, a New Taipei City court sentenced a man to seven months in prison and a fine of NT$250,000 (approximately 800,000 yen) for killing his pet cat with boiling water in an attempt to force his girlfriend back.
