economic opportunities for women
ExxonMobil and the ExxonMobil Foundation invest in organizations around the world that support the economic advancement of women.
ExxonMobil’s Supplier Diversity Program began in the United States 50 years ago and has steadily expanded around the world. An increase in women-owned businesses stimulates innovation, strengthens competition in the supply chain, and builds customer and supplier loyalty by supporting the communities in which we operate.
We focus our investments on developing women entrepreneurs, implementing financial literacy programs, providing access to savings accounts, and increasing the productivity of women farmers.
ExxonMobil and the ExxonMobil Foundation have supported women in more than 90 countries who are achieving their economic potential and driving economic and social change in their communities. From 2005 to 2022, we have invested more than $128 million to help community-based and global partners implement programs that directly benefit women.
For example, this funding enabled 5,000 women entrepreneurs to benefit from nonprofit Solar Sister business training while bringing life-changing energy solutions to their communities. This work has reached more than 1.7 million people and has had a positive ripple effect on health, education and the environment.
Meanwhile, more than 2,800 women entrepreneurs have strengthened their skills and grown their businesses by participating in the Road to Growth program, a joint venture between the Cherry Blair Women’s Foundation and the ExxonMobil Foundation. Three-quarters of Nigerian participants increased their savings during the program, and more than half increased their business income during the pandemic.
Over the past several years, ExxonMobil has invested approximately $500 million annually in women-owned businesses. ExxonMobil is also a founding member of the Global Business Coalition for Women’s Economic Empowerment, a private business consortium that promotes women’s economic transformation.
