The X social media platform on Tuesday reinstated the account of Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, after briefly suspending it.
It was not immediately clear why Navalnaya’s account was suspended in the first place.
Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation tagged Elon Musk in a post asking “which rules did Navalny violate?” The accounts of Navalny’s allies, including press secretary Kira Yarmysh, appear to be unaffected.
When we contacted X’s news team, CNBC received an automated response that said, “We’re busy at the moment, please check back later.”
Navalny, 47, was a prominent and vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He died Friday in an Arctic penal colony where he was serving a 19-year sentence.
The news sparked an international backlash, with many political leaders claiming that President Putin was responsible for the death of the anti-corruption campaigner. Navalnaya said on Monday that she believed her husband was killed by President Putin, and she vowed to continue her work fighting for a free Russia.
Before her account was suspended, Navalnaya posted a video message blaming President Putin for her husband’s death and calling on Russians to rally around her in the fight to secure a free country. Ta.
The Kremlin has rejected these claims, with Russia’s Foreign Ministry calling the political leader’s reaction a “confession” given that forensic tests have not yet been carried out.
Russia announced on Monday that an investigation into Navalny’s death was ongoing and insisted that “all appropriate measures are being taken.”
