The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning shoppers that certain infant formulas are being removed from shelves due to potential contamination.
This nationwide recall involves packaging of Enfamil brand Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic (infant formula).
The affected products are being recalled from the market due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii contamination.
“Do not consume, use, sell, offer, or distribute recalled products,” the CFIA said in its recall warning.
Food contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still cause illness, the agency said.
“Cronobacter sakazakii is not generally associated with human disease, but in rare cases it can cause serious or fatal infections. “It can cause infections and has been associated with severe intestinal infections (necrotizing enterocolitis) and sepsis (sepsis), especially in newborns,” the warning states.
The recall was caused by the company, and there have been no reports of illnesses related to the consumption of this powdered milk.
The following products are affected:
• Enfamil Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic (Infant Milk), 561 g, UPC Number 0 56796 00498 2, Item Number 3230626, Expiration Date 01-JA-2025, Batch Number 0704376 (ZL3FVY).

Walmart Canada confirmed that it carries the item in its stores and online, and that the item has been “removed from sale,” spokeswoman Felicia Pfeffer said.
Sobeys spokeswoman Sarah Dawson said the products were sold in all Sobeys banner stores, including Sobeys, Freshco, Foodland and IGA, as well as online grocery delivery service Voilà by Sobeys.
“All affected products have been removed from our national store network and warehouses where they are sold,” Dawson said in an email.
Loblaws Companies Limited did not respond to repeated requests for comment about whether the formula was sold at its flagship stores, including Shoppers Drug Mart, No Frills, Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore.
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to recalls of other products. The CFIA also said in a statement that the industry is ensuring that recalled products are removed from the market.
