iPhone users brag about Apple’s privacy measures, including the option to prevent apps and websites from tracking them around the internet and what they actually do on shopping sites. What you may not know is that Apple has a nifty feature that allows you to avoid tracking for all apps once you enable it. In fact, you can decide which apps can track you and which apps block tracking. A feature called “App Tracking Transparency” (completely unique), as the name suggests, does most of the work to check iPhone users’ privacy and block apps from tracking them.
If you leave this feature enabled, the app will ask for permission from users who can control the app that tracks your device. This is how it should be.
iPhone app tracking: How it works
App Tracking Transparency is a tool that allows iPhone users to decide whether or not to be tracked. Apple simply blocks an app’s access to the unique identifier that is the link between the app and the device.
Using this identifier, brands can create personalized ads. This is what Google and Facebook have built their advertising businesses on for years. Not tracking your iPhone means apps can’t push targeted ads or access your location data or other IDs to facilitate your business.
The company introduced this feature at WWDC 2020, where Apple unveiled the iOS 14 version in front of the world. Since then, the company has played a major role in transforming his Meta business as the platform was unable to track his iPhone users in the targeted advertising process.
Apple has also focused on keeping devices secure by regularly updating iOS/iPadOS and macOS versions with the latest security patches. Recently, Apple was made aware of a critical zero-day vulnerability. The vulnerability was reportedly being exploited for several years before Apple fixed the issue and protected users.
