According to a recent study, more Gen Z trust YouTube than any other social media platform. Business Insider teamed up with YouGov to survey 1,800 participants. The approximately 600 people who participated in that study were Generation Z, or people born between 1997 and 2012. However, this study was only conducted on people over 18 years old. People from other generations also participated in this study.
The survey asked Gen Z participants which social media sites they trust the most. YouTube was the most popular answer, with 59% of Gen Zers saying they fully or partially trust YouTube. 26% of people between the ages of 18 and 26 say they trust YouTube only a little. Her second social media app on the list was Instagram. 40% of Gen Z participants said they trust Instagram, and 45% said they don’t trust Instagram. 15% of Gen Z are unsure whether they trust Instagram.
Third on the list was X (formerly known as Twitter), with a trust rating of 35%. 49% of Gen Z participants are unsure about their trust in Twitter. 15% don’t trust Twitter at all. The social media platform that most Gen Z participants did not trust was Facebook. Only 28% say they can trust Facebook, and 60% of them say they don’t trust Facebook at all. TikTok also came in a close second from the bottom as the least trusted app, followed by Facebook. 57% of Gen Z users say they don’t trust TikTok, and 30% of them say they partially trust TikTok.
There are many reasons why Gen Z trusts YouTube more than other apps. The reason Facebook has emerged as the most untrusted app among Gen Z is because of the many controversies it has faced in the past. Currently, many Gen Z don’t even have a Facebook account to begin with. It was also reported that many Gen Zers have not used Twitter since Elon Musk purchased it. TikTok is also an untrustworthy app due to security issues. In conclusion, the most trusted app among Gen Z these days is YouTube.
