If your Spotify app has been crashing frequently on Android lately, you’re not alone. Spotify’s latest beta update on Android is causing an issue where the app crashes before it fully opens.
Over the past few days, Spotify has released an update to its Android app that has made the app completely inoperable. This issue prevents you from opening the app and causes it to crash within a second or two when you first try to open it. Unlike the last time the app had crashing issues, it doesn’t work with connections to services like Android Auto. Spotify remains completely non-functional.
However, this issue appears to be limited to the latest beta update of Spotify for Android, version 8.9.2.169.
The issue first started being noticed on Saturday, December 30th, but there is no sign of an update to fix it, and the issue persists. Users on Twitter/X have confirmed the same and have confirmed that troubleshooting steps like uninstalling and reinstalling do not work/
In theory, sideloading an older version of the Spotify app should work, but a safer method is to leave the Spotify beta program in the Play Store, uninstall the app, and use the stable version. is to reinstall. However, please note that uninstalling will also remove any content downloaded for offline use.
When it comes to timing, it’s certainly not ideal as New Year’s celebrations are underway.
