CARBONDALE, Ill. — Carbondale police caught a burglar who took items from a home thanks to a notification from the Ring Neighbors app.
According to the Carbondale Police Department, the incident happened on December 28th in the area of āāWashington Street and Hester Street. Police said they received a report of the package theft via the Ring Neighbors app.
Police officers and detectives were able to obtain photos of the incident and later spotted the suspect wearing the same clothing.
They also recovered stolen items and returned them to the victims.
“The Neighbors app has proven to be a highly effective tool in bringing neighbors together by sharing information and creating a sense of community, and when necessary, helps prevent crime,” Carbondale Police said in a news release. “This can increase the chances of a successful investigation.” . āSubscribers of the Neighbors app are not required to notify or contact police, and police cannot access other peopleās cameras or learn address or owner information unless provided by the owner.
