On January 2, 2024, Pierce Transit will transition to a new on-demand runner app for use in the Spanaway/Parkland/Midland, Ruston, and Tide Flats zones. The Puyallup Runner zone is already using this new app. Trips can be requested through a new dedicated app called Pierce Transit Runner or by calling a phone number. Runner is an affordable, on-demand, curb-to-curb neighborhood transportation service powered by Via that transports customers in places that are difficult to reach by bus. Pierce Transit currently provides runner service in select zones in Spanaway/Parkland/Midland, Ruston, Tide Flats, Puyallup, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Pierce Transit recognizes the need to provide daily transportation to areas that lack extensive bus service or do not have sufficient ridership density to fill large buses. Runner addresses these region-specific challenges and increases access to critical locations in underserved areas. Provide loading and unloading of passengers at safe locations with few bus stops available. Reduce traffic and parking congestion during the busiest commute times. Runner is a convenient, reliable and safe way to get to work, school, appointments, recreation and other activities, providing quick and seamless connections with existing bus and rail services. Riders often traveling in the same direction at the same time carpool, reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions.
New and current Runner riders should download the new Pierce Transit Runner app on their mobile devices in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The new Runner app includes the following features:
- Easy to use interface
- Connect to bus and train options when available
- Quick sign-up and travel booking
- Simple curb-to-curb service within the zone. Simply select your pick-up and drop-off locations.
- Access to the main local hub outside of the Spanaway Runner service zone
- Accurate waiting time, real-time vehicle location
- Improved communication between drivers, dispatch, and passengers
- ADA Compliant Features, Ability to Choose Vehicles Compatible with Mobility Devices
- With the exception of JBLM runners, service will operate seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Ride comfort evaluation/feedback
