Open enrollment in Medicare begins October 15th and runs through December 7th. The state’s Medicare Assistance Program is hosting a series of events to help Indianans get through the open enrollment period.
The Indiana Department of Insurance’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is hosting presentations and other events to help eligible Hoosiers make insurance choices for 2024.
Rebecca Kinney directs the Office of Community Living’s Medical Information and Counseling Department. Her office manages a program that provides community education about Medicare. She said people can feel overwhelmed by all the options, but assistance programs can make it easier to navigate them.
“Don’t wait until the last moment because you may need time to think through the options available to you and may not want to make a decision right away,” Kinney said. “I want to have enough time to think about it.”

He said all Medicare enrollees should take advantage of the open enrollment period to see if there are any changes related to their insurance and whether it best meets their needs. Ta.
