GRIFFIN — Thanks to a grant from the Home Depot Foundation, students at Moore Elementary School will be spending more time learning outdoors.
Despite Wednesday’s rain, local Team Depot members and volunteers from the Griffin-Spalding County School System continued working together to renovate the school’s courtyard into an outdoor learning space.
“We would like to thank The Home Depot Foundation and the Griffin Home Depot store for providing this renovation to Moore’s outdoor learning space. This is a great benefit for our students and we would like to thank our sponsors for their impact. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we look forward to seeing the magic that happens in this space,” said Ron Brown, Moore Elementary School Student Discipline Director.
Volunteers painted old murals, erected tables, renovated and installed raised flower beds, erected umbrellas for shade, improved water features, and added mulch to playgrounds.
“It takes a village to raise a child and we are grateful to those who work with us to serve our children,” said Moore Elementary School Principal Audra Olukoya. “We would like to thank St. George’s Episcopal Church, St. Philip’s AME, Delta Sigma Theta Alumni Chapter, Fresh Start Ministries, and the dormitory parents who contributed to this project. We aim to make society a better place. Anyone who wants to partner with Moore Elementary School to mentor students is needed and welcome.”
“Home Depot and the Team Depot Foundation have given us the opportunity to complete community service projects to better the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Lower, Home Depot store manager in Griffin. You can,” he added. We had the pleasure of working with Behr Cares of Behr Paint Company in the Fairmont Community of Griffin to complete this project at Moore Elementary School. ”
