The Federal Government has announced the Omeife AI and Omeife Digital Literacy apps developed by UNICCON Group.
These apps are derivative products of Omeife, Africa’s first humanoid robot, which was launched in December 2022.
The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Authority (NITDA), Mallam Kashif Inuwa, unveiled the app at its headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
He spoke about the extraction of services that provide digital literacy, adding that this technology is needed to achieve the target of 95% digital literacy in Nigeria.
This app provides access to digital literacy and education to Nigerians, Africans, and people around the world. We provide translation services from source languages to target languages such as English, Pidgin English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, French, Swahili, Arabic, etc. It also provides subtitles, knowledge support, text summaries, and video translations.
Malam Inuwa said these products were a huge success recorded by the company since the launch of Humanoid.
He said, “Omeife is in the hands of Nigerians, providing a personalized way to learn and an interactive experience. I have been touring the facility and have been impressed by the technology that is in place. We are pleased with the convergence of technology here from an academic, physical and chemical standpoint.”
NITDA DG expressed his admiration for the advanced technology adopted by the UNICCON Group and pledged government support for the group’s research activities.
The group’s chairman, Dr. Chuks Ekwueme, acknowledged NIITDA, academia, industry partners, policy makers and the community for supporting the advancement of digital literacy.
He expressed special gratitude to NITDA DG for being a partner in the proceedings. He emphasized that the launched apps solve problems unique to Africa and add value to society.
Mr. Kehinde Ake, General Manager of UNICCON Group, called on all stakeholders in the technology sector to support efforts to enable digital literacy in Africa. He says there is no digital economy if the beneficiaries are digitally ignorant.
