(WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton West High School student was recognized for his creative app.
Congressman Mike Gallagher announced high school senior Owen Hall as the winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.
Hall created OnTask, an all-in-one planning app that helps students plan and stay productive. Through the app, users can access their to-do list, calendar, and school planner, adjust colors, and add tasks and assignments for each class.
“I am proud to announce Owen Hall as the winner of this year’s Wisconsin 8th District Congressional App Challenge,” said Congressman Gallagher. “We all know how difficult it is to stay organized, but Owen’s app gives people an easy-to-use app with all the features they need to stay focused and stay on task. This app is even more impressive considering that Owen took the initiative to teach himself how to code during an incredibly busy school schedule. His diligence and creativity in this task is a reminder of how talented students we have in Northeast Wisconsin, and I look forward to seeing what he does next. .”
Hall said he created the app to solve a problem he struggles with every day.
He says his to-do list, event list, and school assignments are all stored in separate apps. The OnTask app provides a space where he can store all this information in one place.
“Conflicts often occur because people put events or assignments in one area and not in another, or forget to check everything. I know that many other students struggle with the same problem. “We designed OnTask to solve this problem. We also used the app as an opportunity to learn web and app development skills while creating a useful product,” writes Owen Hall. I am.
Hall is applying to several top universities across the country and is interested in majoring in electrical engineering or computer science.
