Richmond Heights City Council on Oct. 10 awarded two contracts to CT Consultants to develop a master plan to construct a gazebo at Greenwood Farm Park and another to address aging buildings. It was resolved to enter into an agreement with
These current contracts will not be funded with city funds, as the updates will be paid for using federal American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Greenwood Farm Park, located at 264 Richmond Road, currently has a two-story home and an 1800s barn on the property.
The foundation of this home is showing signs of age and needs to be updated to maintain stability. Part of the funding will also be to develop a plan to address this.
The city of Richmond Heights wants to start using Greenwood Farm as a venue for more events, and City Services Director Ryan Tideman said the gazebo is seen as one way to begin that transition. It is said that it has been done.
“We wanted to be able to host concerts there, so we talked about putting in a gazebo,” Tideman said. “We’re looking to expand that park a little bit and introduce more activities. Yesterday was one step in many projects, and all of these projects are currently in the early stages.”
CT Consultant Nora Hoxha addressed City Council at the meeting and said the public will be involved in future planning stages, but further research is needed to finalize how to proceed. Ta.
The current interim goal for the gazebo is to ensure that it does not obstruct the current views of the park. The farm’s main building needs to be updated to make it accessible to people with disabilities and to repair its weak foundation.
“There was some research done on the main building a few years ago,” Hoxha told the city council. “At issue are the structural aspects of the porch. And part of the plan for the main house is ADA accessibility.”
Greenwoods Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Locations added to the list must meet strict national and state regulations if repairs are required.
Hoxha said following these guidelines is part of the time it takes to develop a master plan.
“Greenwood Farms is a historic farm, so what we’re looking for is a master plan,” Hoxha said. “The location (of the gazebo) has not yet been determined, but we need to do a little more research to understand the historical aspects of the farm and make sure there are no obstructions to the view.”
According to CT Consultants, construction of the gazebo will not begin until a public meeting is held. These meetings seek input on gazebo locations and other aspects of the park.
