A legal dispute between Hawaii Public Library System vendor SirsiDynix and its third-party vendor, Solus, continues, but the library system can still offer basic virtual services to patrons with a mobile app solution. I did it like this.
You can find the app by searching for “Libraries Hawai’i” in your mobile device’s app store or by stopping by your local public library. The library system is relaunching the original app, and app provider Chirefresh is working with the library system to add features patrons will love, such as the ability to provide access to multiple library accounts.
ChiliFresh’s “Libraries Hawai’i” app provides the following basic services:
- Use in place of a physical library card
- Check your account information, including borrowed items, due dates, fines, etc.
- Browse the library system catalog
- Scan the barcode of a book, DVD, or CD title to check availability in HSPLS’s catalog
- View the list of checked out items and update items
- View a list of reserved items and reserve or cancel them
- See library opening hours
- Update and scan items
Ebooks and audiobooks can still be checked out using the Libby application.
“We truly appreciate the patience of our library users, and we look forward to continuing to improve access to our app and better serve you,” said State Librarian Stacey A. Aldrich. said.
