LOCK HAVEN — Two Commonwealth University Lock Haven students worked as event staff for the Little League World Series in South Williamsport this summer, gaining unique insight into game-day operations.
Sports management students Hannah Possinger of East Stroudsburg and Joshua Torrence of Pottstown worked on the nearly two-week series, honing their skills in crowd management, customer service and time management.
“Working at the Little League World Series was a great experience and I really enjoyed seeing what goes into running an event of this magnitude. I look forward to being a part of this event again next year.” , said Torrens, who has been working on the series for the past two years.
Each year, as part of the Little League World Series, the MLB Little League Classic (LLC) is held between two Major League Baseball teams at Muncie Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport. This year, nine Commonwealth University sports management students and three faculty members worked as ushers and Little League team liaisons at MLB LLC’s Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals game.
The MLB Little League Classic is the first event in Commonwealth University’s Sports Management program to include students from multiple locations.
Possinger and Torrence were joined by Lock Haven student Zachary Bamberger of Phillipsburg. Hannah Ernest of Herndon; Kevin Magana of Worcester, Massachusetts; Dominic Scicchitano of Bellefonte. Ashton Sunday of Carlisle. Paige Yingst of Mount Holly Springs and Bloomsburg student Jason Yeick of Catawissa.
“All the students, current and former, have been so kind and welcomed me with open arms. The professors and other students have all supported me and made me feel comfortable even though we are not on the same campus. I loved seeing them participate and it encouraged me to keep doing my job,” Yeick said.
