Independent music distribution service DistroKid released an Android app today, months after the company released an iOS app.
The Android app has similar functionality to the iOS app, which has been downloaded over 500,000 times. Artists can upload tracks directly from their phones, receive payment alerts, see analytics from services like Spotify and Apple Music, and edit their songs’ metadata.
The company has been busy this year with acquisitions and product launches. In April, DistroKid released a new mastering tool called Mixea. The $99-a-year product offers features like “radio-ready” your tracks, bass optimization, and uploading high-quality audio.
In September, DistroKid announced the acquisition of Bandzoogle, a website building tool for musicians founded in 2003 by musician Chris Vinson. The tool allows artists to sell music, tickets, and merchandise directly to fans. At the time of the acquisition, Bandzoogle powered over 60,000 of his sites, and he had sold $100 million in inventory to date.
In October, the company began allowing artists to upload music to ByteDance’s TikTok Music service. As part of the deal, DistroKid artists will have their songs available in her CapCut video editing software.
DistroKid was founded in 2013 by Philip “Pud” Kaplan. The company raised his last round in 2021 at a valuation of $1.3 billion.
