RETAIL employees may have gone too far as shocked customers took to social media to reveal their shopping experiences.
Tiktoker @watchyourmouthmed documented the moment he rejected a receipt check at Walmart and the aftermath.
The video begins with a customer about to leave the store, before hearing someone speaking and turning around to wait at the store’s front door.
“This woman here won’t let me leave Walmart because she doesn’t want me to see her receipt,” he explained, showing the employee from behind the camera.
After filming the woman for about 30 seconds checking another customer’s receipt, the man approached her.
“Well, young lady, don’t you think I might have stolen this? They called you on the radio and said, ‘Hey, that guy is stealing it.’ ?” they asked.
She explained that this was her job, to which the TikToker could be heard saying, “Okay, okay.”
The customer understood, but was still annoyed, so I asked him for his opinion.
“This is not something you should be doing right now,” he told her.
Eventually a manager arrived on scene and the customer explained the problem.
“She’s accusing me of stealing this. Did you see me doing anything wrong on the surveillance camera?” he asked the manager.
After the manager muttered an answer that was incomprehensible on the video, an employee checking the receipt spoke up.
“He’s saying he’s accusing me of stealing because I asked for the receipt. So when I was checking everyone’s receipts, he accused me of stealing. “I’m accusing them of that,” she explained.
The manager also asked and explained why the customer felt like he was being blamed.
“Because she’s stopping me. She won’t let me take the property,” he said.
“Did you show her the receipt?” the manager replied.
“No, because this is my property now. Why should I show you? You want to show me what’s in your car?” shot back to the irritated customer.
After a few seconds, the manager allowed the customer to leave with a big hand gesture and a “have a nice day.”
Viewers on the app were outraged by the customer experience and shared their opinions.
“If she doesn’t suspect theft, why would she claim that? Look at the people walking past her without checking the receipt,” one viewer admitted.
Another commenter wondered, “Why didn’t anyone take a screenshot of Walmart’s policy that it’s not mandatory to show a receipt? So just show it when asked.”
“These people are serious about their work for a company that doesn’t treat them very well and pay them very little,” wrote another.
However, some viewers had doubts about TikToker and started criticizing it.
One person commented: “Just flash and keep going.”
“Wachu have to hide? If you paid for all the shit, what are you worried about them seeing?” asked one viewer.
Another man said: “If you don’t want to steal, just leave the store. You’re just making their job harder.”
