According to JungleScout’s fourth quarter trends report, 67% of U.S. consumers plan to buy gifts on Amazon during the holidays. The quarterly survey examines the shopping habits of 1,000 U.S. consumers, the e-commerce company said.
According to JungleScout, survey participants represented 49 U.S. states, all genders, ages 18 to over 75, and a variety of employment types and income levels.

The survey also found that shoppers prefer to spend their money on local and small businesses for holiday gifts this year. One in five shoppers surveyed said they buy gifts from these types of companies whenever possible, a statistic that will double from 2022.
Despite the desire to shop local and small businesses, Walmart remains the primary destination for consumers during the holidays. The survey found that 52% of shoppers intend to purchase gifts from Walmart in-store rather than online. Consumers looking to buy gifts online said they were turning to Amazon, with 53% choosing the tech giant.
Even though it’s only been a few weeks since Black Friday, research has found that consumer interest in the popular shopping day has significantly decreased. The survey found that only 41% of consumers said they planned to shop during Black Friday sales, compared to 57% a year ago.
According to the survey, approximately 59% of shoppers said they would purchase a physical product during the holiday season, and 49% said they would purchase a gift card in addition to a physical product or on its own. According to JungleScout, participants can select multiple options, so the total will not add up to 100%.

The most popular gifting strategies for shoppers are looking for deals on items people wanted (37%) and surprising people with items they didn’t ask for or expected to receive (37%) 35%), the study found.
According to the study, consumers’ top five priorities ahead of holiday shopping were family, physical health and well-being, mental health and well-being, and finances and spirituality.
Other notable companies that shoppers are willing to shop in-store include Target (22%), Kohl’s (14%), Costco (9%), Walgreens (8%), and Best Buy. (8%) and Sam’s Club (8%). %), Macy’s (8%), and Home Depot (7%).
