Have you ever heard an announcement over the intercom while shopping at Walmart? Of course, we’ve all done it. But did you know that the same announcement could save your life? Yes, it’s true.
It turns out that Walmart has a secret code that it uses to communicate various situations to its employees. While most codes are harmless, there are a few that every shopper should be aware of, especially in situations like gunfights.
The importance of listening to Walmart’s intercom announcements
If you’ve never paid attention to in-store intercom announcements before, now is a good time to start. According to Yahoo, understanding and reacting to secret codes could potentially save lives.
Different Types of Walmart Intercom Codes
Walmart stores in New York use different codes to alert staff to different situations. Some codes include colors, numbers, letters, and word codes. Although most of the codes are aimed at employees, there are some color codes that you should be aware of.
Important Walmart color codes to be aware of
A code white means an accident or injury occurred in the store. Code red means there is a fire, and the number after code red tells employees which aisle the fire is in. Code Orange means there was a chemical spill inside or outside the store that required the assistance of an employee. Code black means there is severe weather in the area.
Walmart instant evacuation code
code brown is really important. If you hear a code brown on the Walmart intercom, get out of the store as soon as possible because there is an active shooter inside the store.
Other Walmart codes to watch out for
A code green signifies a hostage situation within the store. If possible, call 9-1-1 and carefully exit the store. A code blue means there may be a bomb threat and if you hear it, leave the store immediately.
You will rarely need to use these codes, but it’s good to know in case you do.
