Birmingham – The Birmingham Police Department reported that detectives obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the assault investigation. The incident happened Tuesday, December 5, 2023at the Roebuck Walmart (9248 Parkway East).
The suspect was identified as Tywonte Jackson, (25), B/M, of Center Point, Alabama. On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Jackson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail. $30,000 security deposit.
“Shortly after 1:30 p.m., officers from the East Precinct were dispatched to a report of shots fired at Roebuck Walmart,” said BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald. “Officers arrived on scene and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound inside the store. Two Birmingham police officers who were at Walmart for a community event took the shooting suspect into custody just outside the store. ”
Birmingham Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers transported the suspect to BPD Headquarters where he was questioned by BPD Felony Assault Detectives. He was then transported to Birmingham City Jail and given a 48-hour felony extension.
Birmingham police detectives submitted information about the incident to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After evaluating the information, detectives obtained an arrest warrant. Assault 1st degree.
