SANDPOINT — Local authors will tell stories under the night sky as children gather around a campfire in Sandpoint Park to the smell of melty marshmallows and toasted graham crackers as part of a new program .
This program, Stories & S’mores, is hosted by Sandpoint Parks and Recreation, the Bonner County Historical Society, and the East Bonner County Library District. Each month, a different local author will tell a story at a different featured park. Meanwhile, a warm campfire will be lit for kids and parents who want to enjoy s’mores.
In November, local author Sandy Compton told stories for the first Stories & S’mores at Hickory Park. Kami Omot with Sandpoint Parks and Recreation said the event was well received with about 20 people attending.
The Parks and Recreation Department also secured the author and the park on specified dates for the remainder of the winter. On December 15th, local author, illustrator, and musician Matt Rome will be appearing at Lakeview Park from 6-7 p.m., and January Featured Author and Waldorf teacher Julie McCarron will be featuring January The story will be told at the same time on the 19th at Great Northern Park. The last scheduled event, Stories & S’mores, will be held at Farmin Park on February 16th and will feature local authors Pam Webb and Paul Graves.
