SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Thursday, Dec. 7 marks the first night of Hanukkah in 2023, and San Diego’s Jewish community is hosting numerous events across the county during the eight-day festival.
Below is a list of Hanukkah events, including the lighting of the menorah, car parade, and gathering at the Hotel del Coronado’s ice skating rink.
Thursday, December 7th
Join Chabad of La Jolla for its annual Hanukkah celebration at La Valencia Hotel’s Patio Sol. Live music, latkes, dreidels, holiday gifts, and of course the lighting of the menorah are highlights of this gathering. The event is free and open to the public.
- liberty station – Hanukkah and Menorah Lighting

Liberty Station is hosting this event in partnership with Chaba’s in downtown San Diego and Pacific Beach. The public menorah lighting will take place on the Central Promenade at Liberty Station, next to the Rady Children’s Ice Rink. The family-friendly event features plenty of entertainment and treats for everyone.
The menorah will be on display during the festival and will be lit every night on Hanukkah.
- North County Mall– Hanukkah at Chabad and Mall in Poway

This event will be held in the center of the first floor of the mall, near the Target entrance. Crafts, donuts, and more will be part of the celebration.
- Chabad of SDSU – Hanukkah Celebration “Assembly for Light”
- Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm

San Diego will participate in a worldwide menorah lighting ceremony that begins in Israel and ends with a new menorah recently installed at Chabad near San Diego State University. The event celebrates the installation of a new 24-foot-tall steel menorah, currently installed in Chabad’s front yard, and will mark San Diego’s moment of lighting from 6:45 to 7 p.m. becomes. Sunday, December 10th

Celebrate Hanukkah with the Sesame Street staff! Kids will have a chance to play dreidel with Elmo, hear Hanukkah stories, show off their dance moves, and participate in a scavenger hunt. Jeff’s Gourmet Sausage Factory will serve kosher food while supplies last.

Departure progress! Chabad of Poway is hosting another event, this time converting a steam locomotive train in Old Poway Park into a “Hanukkah Train.” The public is welcome to participate in this celebration. The first train leaves at 4:10 p.m., so arrive on time to enjoy it.
Monday, December 11th

This is the second year that County Supervisor Terra Lawson Rimmer’s office has hosted a menorah lighting at the county courthouse.
Tuesday, December 12th
- Hotel del Coronado– Special Hanukkah on Ice event with ice rink
- Time: 4:30pm
- Address: 1500 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118
Hotel Del hosts a nightly menorah lighting in its beautiful garden courtyard. However, there will be a special Hanukkah on Ice menorah lighting next to the skating rink on December 12th. Chabad of Coronado organized the menorah lighting.
- One Paseo– Menorah lighting ceremony at the koi pond
- Time: 5pm to 7:30pm

The Chabad Jewish Center of One Paseo and Rancho Santa Fe invites your family to this menorah lighting ceremony. The event will feature live music led by Rabbi Levi Raskin, kosher refreshments, and the lighting of the menorah.
- Carlsbad Forum Shops – Menorah lighting and ceremony
- Time: 4pm to 6pm (with Chabad La Costa)

Chabad of La Costa hosts this family-friendly event at the Carlsbad Forum Shops.
Thursday, December 14th
Gather at Chabad of Oceanside, decorate your vehicle, and then cruise around town to show your Jewish pride and unity. Chabad trucks will lead the parade, which is expected to last approximately 45 minutes. Please click the link above to RSVP.
