A Walmart shopper has been accused of changing the prices of items.
TikTok user Shopper Godmother said she bought a box of diapers when confronted by Walmart’s receipt checker.
“So the other day I showed you guys how to take a diaper,” she said.
“One thing I haven’t told you guys is that when I go out, of course I can’t put this in my bag, Walmart wants to see my receipt. Why is this woman wearing glasses?” “Please tell me if you tried to interrogate me.” How did you get this? ”
According to the TikToker, Walmart employees accused her of somehow changing the diapers to make them cheaper.
“When I left, she said, ‘I’m sure there are people here who change the price of diapers,'” she said.
“Miss, please get a ride somewhere.”
TikTok users aren’t the only Walmart shoppers inconvenienced by the receipt checker.
Some people question the legality of this practice and refuse to stop when Walmart employees ask for their receipts.
One TikTok lawyer believes this practice is illegal and that Walmart has no right to see receipts.
“At Walmart, there is no law that allows stores to require receipts,” attorney Clay Payne said.
However, he cautioned that shoppers should be careful, as refusing to check their receipt could make the store suspicious enough that they could be detained.
“A law called ‘storekeeper’s privilege’ allows stores to detain shoplifting suspects for a certain period of time if they have a valid reason,” he said.
“Failure to produce a receipt is not enough for detention, but it can be linked to other charges.”
Trying to skip checking your receipt is not a good idea, as 35-year-old Jeremy Kalmer was arrested after refusing to show his receipt.
Employees became suspicious that he had unbagged items in his cart, and when he failed to provide a receipt, police showed up.
