MOLINE, IL — The weekend is officially here, and WQAD and WLLR will be hosting featured events Dec. 8-10.
On Thursday morning, Good Morning Quad Cities’ David Bohlman and Devin Brooks joined WLLR’s Dani Howe to break down the must-see event.
Here’s a synopsis for this weekend:
luminaria night
The City of Galena is lighting more than 5,000 lanterns throughout downtown to celebrate the holiday season.
Many businesses downtown will also extend their hours for the event and may display window displays with themes such as “The Grinch” or “Santa’s Toy Store.”
Living window displays begin at 4 p.m., and light fixtures turn on at 5 p.m. From 6pm to 7pm, carolers will perform at Grant’s Park Gazebo and sing a variety of traditional Christmas songs. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of extended business hours at local businesses.
‘The Nutcracker’
Ballet Quad Cities returns to Davenport’s Adler Theater for its annual production of “The Nutcracker.”
The production will feature over 60 performers, live music, gorgeous set design, and more to bring attendees into the holiday spirit.
Shows begin Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be found on the Adler Theater website and can also be purchased at the door.
season of light
Augustana University is bringing back its “Season of Light” show at the John Deere Planetarium and Carl Gamble Observatory for another year. The show will be shown from December 10th to December 16th.
The event is an immersive program that includes a narrated story and astronomical images projected onto a 30-foot-tall dome. For families, this is also an educational experience to share how our holiday traditions are tied to the night sky above.
In addition to the planetarium exhibits, the Fryxell Geological Museum will also be open to attendees.
This event is free, but space in the planetarium is limited so participants must RSVP. This can be done here. Each show opens 15 minutes early and late entry is not allowed.
