According to a recent Cisco study, consumers will use more apps and digital services than ever before this holiday season, with 63% of people worldwide saying digital services are important to having a happy holiday. I think there is. Whether it’s streaming movies and music, connecting with friends and family, getting the latest news, or managing finances, consumers will rely on a vast array of apps to celebrate.
This increased usage also means more pressure on brands to ensure their applications run smoothly because they don’t want to end up on fraud lists. More than half (53%) of global consumers admit that they are worried that their family vacation will be negatively impacted if digital services do not function properly.
According to the Cisco AppDynamics Seasonal Shopping Pulse Survey Part 2 (Christmas and Holiday Season), here are the key findings from Indian respondents:
Expected usage of applications and digital services during the Christmas/holiday period
- 88% of Indian respondents expect to use entertainment apps to stream movies, TV shows, sports, and music
- 72% of Indian respondents expect to use connected devices (Alexa, smart home).
- 60% choose gaming apps
- 84% chose tools to connect with friends and family (social media, video calling, etc.).
- 75% expect to use retail apps to buy last-minute gifts and last-minute ingredients for holiday recipes
- 75% use banking and insurance apps to make last-minute payments or transfer money
- 78% think they use news and information-based apps
- 88% of people use grocery delivery services to save money and take home their groceries.
- 73% expect to use collaboration and productivity tools to get work or study done before vacation
- 79% are interested in using health and wellness apps for fitness and relaxation
- 75% want to use hospitality, leisure and travel ā last minute trips, hotel room bookings, route planners
- 72% expect to use government services apps
- 81% choose to use utility apps (broadband, water, gas, electricity)
- 79% want to access healthcare apps when they or a loved one need to see a doctor or nurse or get medication

- 51% feel they need a bank or insurance for last-minute payments or transfers
- 42% feel utility apps are important (broadband, water, gas, electricity)
- 52% say healthcare apps and services are important when they or a loved one need to see a doctor or nurse or get medication.
- 50% feel apps are important to their health and well-being, including fitness and relaxation
- 46% choose hospitality, leisure and travel apps/services as important – last-minute trips, hotel room bookings, route planners

Potential application failure scenarios that impact your holiday spirit
- 45% agree with the fact that their bank app is down and they can’t make important payments or transfers
- 38% feel unable to talk to friends and family who aren’t with them during the holidays because their messaging apps are down
- 44% say they can’t buy a needed last-minute gift or order last-minute ingredients for a holiday meal if an online retailer’s app or website isn’t working properly. Masu
- 33% feel that if their entertainment streaming service goes down, they won’t be able to listen to party or festive music on their big day
- 33% said they wouldn’t be able to get the appointments or medication they or other family members need during the holidays if digital health services and apps didn’t work properly.
- 46% agreed that they wouldn’t be able to order the great value takeout they were looking forward to if their food delivery service wasn’t working properly.
- 34% say if their travel app goes down, they won’t be able to book travel to get where they need to go on vacation
- 26% said they and their family/friends would not be able to enjoy watching sports over the long weekend if their sports streaming service wasn’t working properly.
- 1% of respondents feel that their Christmas holiday could be ruined if other services fail.
Responding/Responding to Potential Application Failure Scenarios During the Holiday Season
- 56% feel it would be harder to enjoy themselves as much as they would otherwise
- 44% say they vent about their problems to friends and family
- 35% said they feel stressed, angry, anxious and turn into the Grinch.
- 30% said they would delete an app or digital service that disappointed them and never use it again
- 33% say they are more likely to argue or vent their frustrations to friends and family
- 8% said they would do none of the above

- 75% agree that they are concerned about the impact that apps and digital services not working will have on their family’s holidays and Christmas.
- 85% agree that they expect to use more applications and digital services this Christmas/holiday season than usual
- 69% of respondents said they can’t tolerate apps that let them down, maybe during the Christmas or holiday season.
- 71% say their Christmas or holiday season could be ruined if an app or digital service doesn’t work.
