Victims of corporate false advertising have just one week left to get their hands on recent settlements.
People who bought recycled bags from Hefty or Walmart have only a few days left to claim Reynold’s latest settlement.
In September, household brand Reynolds agreed to a $3 million settlement after being sued in a class action lawsuit that said its Hefty Bag and Great Value “recycled” bags were not recyclable.
According to the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, Reynolds misled consumers into believing that its recycled trash bags were recyclable.
Despite these claims, “recycled” bags are said to be unable to be recycled at waste treatment facilities.
It was claimed that the company misled people into thinking they were buying environmentally friendly trash bags because they were recyclable.
The company has not admitted wrongdoing but has agreed to a settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Affected individuals can receive $2 for each product purchased for up to six products if they do not have proof of purchase.
However, those with proof can claim up to 25 products and receive a $50 payment.
To be eligible, you must have purchased a Hefty or Great Value recycling bag between July 20, 2018 and August 30, 2023.
Claims must be made by December 13th to receive payment.
If the shopper plans to provide proof of purchase, the receipt must include the name of the retailer of purchase, the amount of the purchase, the price paid, and the form of payment used.
For legal reasons, customers must be truthful in their claims under penalty of perjury.
If you’re not sure whether you qualify, talk to your claims administrator to find out if you’re eligible.
