Beyond Benign, in partnership with sponsors and partners including the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute (ACS GCI), announces the launch of the Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC), an online hub for those in the green chemistry community I’m happy to be able to do this. Share, connect, learn and grow.
Developed in collaboration with green chemistry leaders and educators from around the world, GCTLC is a dynamic website where community members can build connections, find mentors, share resources, and advance their knowledge through peer-led learning. It’s a virtual space.
āWe founded GCTLC with passionate educators, industry partners, and stakeholders within the green chemistry education community.
GCTLC Senior Program Manager Jonathan Moir said, āAs we have grown this platform together, GCTLC exists as a platform for teaching and learning, and a living testament to the unity and collaboration that underpins our community. ā.
GCTLC was designed with K-12 educators, higher education faculty, and student leaders in mind, and serves as a central meeting space for green chemistry enthusiasts to connect in real time.
āThe GCTLC fills a huge gap, particularly in the field of education,ā said Glenn Hurst, a professor at York University and a member of the GCTLC Leadership Committee. āThe challenge of transforming our communities and creating real change in the broader integration of green chemistry into education is one that GCTLC is best positioned to take on.ā
GCTLC provides a one-stop shop for all green chemistry needs. The main features are:
- A robust community space where users can find and connect with other community members based on occupation, institution, and other key identifiers
- An extensive library of valuable educational resources and curriculum materials from community members around the world.
- Forums and Groups. Users can dig deeper into specific green chemistry topics and seek advice from their peers.
- Ongoing learning opportunities, including courses and special events.
āGCTLC is a powerful resource that will greatly improve the ability of our educational community to collaborate, share, and ultimately adopt new green chemistry curricula,ā said Adelina, Director of Sustainable Development at ACS GCI. Vochkova said. āWe are proud to partner with Beyond Benign on this venture.ā
The overarching objective of GCTLC is to promote the widespread integration of green chemistry principles into educational settings and, as a result, into various industrial sectors.
āThe green chemistry community is incredibly strong when we come together to empower and inspire each other,ā said Amy Cannon, co-founder and executive director of Beyond Benign. . “GCTLC serves as a catalyst for our movement, providing a place where ideas and knowledge can flow freely in real time. We look forward to joining educators and leaders from around the world in this hub. . There we have an opportunity to accelerate our impact.”
MilliporeSigma, Merck KGaA’s life sciences business in Darmstadt, Germany, and the Argosy Foundation played a pivotal role in the successful launch of GCTLC through funding. Additionally, this initiative will support Cell Signaling Technology, BASF, Hexion,
and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
