update: As of late Friday afternoon, more than 8,000 people had expressed interest in the party, which is not actually happening.
Our original report continues below.
Sure, you can see interesting things on the Internet all the time, but this is really important.
Ironically, a “party” is a place where people literally receive cake without paying (among other things).
Someone on Facebook recently created an invitation to a Walmart self-checkout employee Christmas party at the Lanoka Harbor store on Route 9 in Ocean County.
So far — just kidding — more than 2,000 people have expressed interest in participating in the fake event on Friday, December 15th.
Actual employees are just standing there checking receipts, celebrating another successful year of grocery picking, paying, and bagging.
I should point out here that this isn’t a real party (though it would be fun if it were).
This pseudo-party is based on a meme asking when Walmart’s self-checkout Christmas party will be held, rather than the actual store employee Christmas party.
One thread on the invitation page lists the fake things people are bringing to the fake party, and in another thread, someone asks if this is a BYOB event. So the question is “bring your own bag” (this is New Jersey after all).
Again, this isn’t a real party, it’s just one of those online things that will put a smile on your face.
You can also “join” a “party” on Facebook.
