Conversation with author Abby Chandler
Join us in the Raleigh Library on Wednesday, October 25th at 7pm for a virtual author talk with Abby Chandler. She will be speaking about her new book, “Caught in the Temper of the Time: Identity and Rebellion in Pre-Revolutionary America.” She reexamines the Stamp Act Riots in Rhode Island and the Regulatory Rebellion in North Carolina, focusing on the role of the Howard family and Martin Howard in both historical events. This lecture brings these movements to vivid life while telling a broader story about the evolution of American political thought in the decades surrounding the American Revolution.
Chandler is an associate professor of early American history at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has published articles on early American studies, the long 18th century of protest, and political movements in 18th century British North America in the North Carolina Historical Review.
She also serves on the Massachusetts 250th Anniversary Commission.
