BAKER – An employee at a Walmart store in Baker has been charged with two felonies after an investigation found he gave thousands of dollars worth of electronic items to others without collecting payment.
Quindall Ellis, 21, is charged with organized retail theft and theft over $25,000.
Bakery police were called to the store on Friday after security officials inside the store investigated video recordings that allegedly showed the products being distributed to others.
A police report from an officer who responded to the scene states:
While at the Walmart Asset Protection Office, I visually observed the defendant on camera footage doing something.
Remove electronics from cages and supply goods to “customers” without obtaining credit/
You can complete your transaction with a debit card or with dollars. This secret behavior has been repeatedly observed.
Defendants’ general and specific intent to permanently deprive Walmart of any funds;
It seems like it was a daily thing.
Items distributed included gaming systems, computers, audio equipment, and more.
An initial investigation put the value of the items at $16,000, but Walmart is expected to provide additional documentation that would raise the value to $35,000.
Ellis was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on Saturday. Her first appearance was scheduled for Monday.
