Rome Walmart seems to have taken a page from Ebenezer Scrooge’s playbook. A popular employee of 27 years was suddenly laid off just before the Christmas season.
Lauren Butters has worked at the Walmart store on Taberg Road in Rome since 1996. Just this past August, we celebrated her 27th anniversary on her official Facebook page.
Just reading a few of the comments on the original thread from last August showed just how special our employee Lauren is.
Lauren Butters is very dedicated, hardworking, and always willing to help. happy anniversary! They are happy to have you!
My favorite person to meet at work!
I have met her many times over the years while shopping there. Always happy to help and with a smile!
But just a few months later, Walmart decided they didn’t value Lauren as highly as they had claimed. Lauren was fired from his job at Walmart just before Christmas, his family said.
The family criticized Walmart’s decision, highlighting the personal sacrifices Lauren has made over the years for the job. Subsequent comments flooded with support for Lauren.
It’s such a slap in the face to let go of this loyal employee who has been the cornerstone of this store for nearly 30 years.I hope karma affects those who made this terrible decision
Walmart Rome, it’s terrible to let this woman go (fire her). you should be ashamed! Another reason to hate Walmart is absolutely no reason!
Rome Walmart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A gentle reminder from corporate America that you’re more expendable than you think.
