When Elon Musk said he was taking over Twitter last year, we didn’t really believe it until it happened. The tech mogul acquired the social media platform in a highly publicized deal in 2022, and things haven’t changed since then. The platform, now called X, was once just a microblogging site, but has evolved into much more. You can post long tweets, share long videos, subscribe to premium features, buy blue checkmarks, live stream videos, follow creators, and more.
Despite all the changes, the essence of X (previously known as Twitter) remains the same: giving everyone access to real-time updates about what’s happening around the world. Did you feel the earthquake? Check out what people are saying on Twitter. Did your favorite celebrity get married? Check out their photos on Twitter. Is a new phone coming soon? Check out the leaks on Twitter. Well, you can understand that.
And now, Musk says Twitter is the only reliable source of true information for everyone, and that all other social media platforms are “bought and bought.” By whom? Musk didn’t comment specifically, but it’s still a pretty big statement.
Elon Musk talks about X being a source of information
“X is the only platform you can trust for honest information. All other platforms have been bought and paid for,” Musk wrote in a tweet. His tweets have been viewed more than 46 million times and retweeted more than 81,000 times.
Elon Musk’s comments regarding Company X’s advertisers
Musk recently made headlines for telling advertisers who are withdrawing from Twitter to “throw yourself away.”
During the New York Times’ Dealbook Summit, Musk called for advertisers to leave the platform. Musk called advertisers extortionists and said if brands don’t want to advertise on the platform, they shouldn’t do so. He also criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger.
He said, “If somebody tries to blackmail me with advertising, if somebody tries to blackmail me with money, fuck you. Is that clear? I hope so. Hey, Bob (Iger), if somebody tries to blackmail me with money. If you’re in the audience,’ that’s what I feel, don’t advertise. ”
X CEO Linda Yaccarino later defended Musk’s comments in a post about X, saying Musk gave an “extensive and candid interview.”
“Today, @elonmusk gave a wide-ranging and candid interview on @dealbook 2023. He also offered an apology, an explanation, and a clear view of our position,” Yaccarino wrote.
She added that X is paving the way for “informational independence” that is “offensive to some people.”
Speaking about her perspective on advertising, she added: “We are a platform where people can make their own decisions. And here’s my perspective on advertising: X stands at the unique and surprising intersection of free speech and Maine.” Streets and X Our community is strong and welcomes you. To our partners who believe in our meaningful work — thank you. ”
