Rosco has released a new free myColor mobile app. The app is available for iOS and Android and features a palette builder and detailed color information.
Rosco’s new myColor mobile app provides handheld access to your entire color library and brings all of Rosco’s color filter data together in one place. Use the free myColor app to access detailed color details, compare color filters, and create color palettes.
color library
The myColor app includes Rosco’s entire range of color filters, including Roscolux, Supergel, e-colour+, GamColor, Cinegel, OPTI-FLECS, and Roscolene. This app allows you to sort your filters in three ways: by color, by numerical value, and by transmittance. Sorting by number is useful if you are looking for details about a particular filter but only remember the gel number. You can also sort the library by color or transparency to find colors that are similar in hue or saturation to each other. This is especially useful when exploring similar colors. For example, if you like R39 Skeleton Exotic Sangria but wanted a saturated pink with a bit more of a blue leaning, you can use the app to find his E126 Mauve, which is slightly bluer, near you.
color details
The detailed information myColor provides about the physical and spectral properties of each color filter is perhaps the best feature this app has to offer. Swipe up on a selected filter to see a larger color swatch and all the information you can imagine about the selected filter, including available sizes, CIE coordinates, transmission data, RGB values, and more. It’s helpful to have this information. It’s ready-to-use, saving you time searching for the data you need from multiple online sources.
color comparison tool
myColor app has its own filter comparison feature. Select your first filter and choose Compare from the menu. From there, select the second filter and the app will generate transparency data for both colors into one comprehensive chart. This feature allows you to easily see how each filter performs instead of looking at physical swatch books or looking at graphs side by side to guess the differences.
How to create a color palette using the myColor app
Whether it’s a color scheme designed for a specific cue or a color combination compiled for a client, you can use the myColor app to create color palettes for your lighting projects. Simply select Palette Builder from the menu and add up to 15 filters to create a new palette. From there, you can name and save the palette for future reference. You can access saved palettes in My Palettes and load them into the palette builder to make any changes you want. Palettes are a handy reference that you can access whenever you need to visualize the lighting plan for your upcoming production.
This new mobile app for lighting designers is the perfect addition to any lighting professional’s toolbox. The myColor app, available for both iOS and Android, makes color selection easy when preparing for a project or production.
