Within a month after the forest department released the ‘Ayyan’ app to help Sabarimala pilgrims, the mobile app was downloaded 1.71 million times.
According to officials, the aiyan has been developed by the Periyar Tiger Reserve West Division to ensure timely assistance to pilgrims, especially along the Satram forest route towards Sabarimala. It provides information on all aspects of the pilgrimage, including services along the Pampa-Sannidhanam, Swami Ayyappan Road, Pampa-Neelimala-Sannidhanam, Erumeli-Azthakadavu-Pampa, and Sasram-Upuppara-Sannidhanam routes.
Jyotish Ozakkal, an official of Azhuta Range, said the app will work in both online and offline modes and can provide information to pilgrims within the forest roads. “Through the app, pilgrims can get information about food, drinking water, medical services and emergency assistance points along the Satram Forest Road, even without mobile connectivity,” Ozakkal said.
“Following the initial success of the app, the ministry has decided to release an updated version of the Ayyan app during the next pilgrimage season,” the official said.
The app can be installed from the Google Play Store and is available in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.
