riverside california – San Diego State University Valentina López Arevalo He swept the weekend event titles at the Riverside College Invitational by winning the platform and 3-meter springboard events Saturday at the Riverside Aquatics Center.
López Arevalo exceeded the NCAA zone qualification standards in both events, scoring a season-best 299.95 points on the platform and 294.80 points on the 3-meter springboard in the final. Her performance earned the Aztec junior her seven individual honors this fall.
All six SDSU divers finished within the top 10 on the platform. taylor conopak (231.40 points), Arena Scrocchi (228.65 points) and jules harrison (226.40 points), all of whom recorded NCAA zone qualifying marks, finishing in 5th, 6th, and 7th place, respectively. In addition, Konopake’s scoring set a career best, while the latter two players posted their highest point totals of the season.
meanwhile, Olivia Zamudio (216.05 points) and summer westmoreland (188.95 points) rounded out the Aztec delegation at the event, placing 8th and 9th, respectively.
In the 3-meter finals, SDSU earned the top six spots, including the aforementioned López-Arévalo win. Not to be outdone, Schrocki (291.95 points) and Harrison (288.30 points) earned their NCAA zone qualifying scores one after the other, with Zamudio (264.95 points) finishing in fourth place and all three divers finishing the season. Recorded the highest score.
Elsewhere, Westmoreland (250.25 points) and Konopake (243.10 points) placed fifth and sixth respectively in the event, the latter also setting a season best.
In addition to the Aztecs, the two-day competition included divers from the University of San Diego and California Baptist University.
After a break for final exams, San Diego State will return to the competitive pool with a full team for its second game on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. Pacific time against Air Force at the Aztec Aquaplex. Admission is free.
