The ThriftBooks overview describes the memoir as follows:
“Overcoming the Loss of a Home in Colorado.” Jill Carstens established her identity as a child running around vacant lots in the neighborhood where her parents built a home on Vivian Street, just a stone’s throw away in Colorado. It was an unspoken agreement that Carstens and his brother would live happily ever after on Vivien Street. However, that was lost in an ugly divorce at the age of 16. Carstens and his brother were forced out of the only life they had and faced with an unexpected surprise. “Soon, my brother and I’s only role seems to be to stretch, like a tightrope, the frustrating distance between our parents’ new home.” If it hadn’t been for that escape, she might never have tried to find a new home. Her search confirms her idea that location matters. And it’s important to find community in those places. As Carstens’ journey progresses, she faces continued loss and Denver experiences destructive gentrification. Ultimately, through the milestones and her adventures, using the lens of her constant self-reflection, she will discover unexpected coordinates, places that begin to connect, and create forks that lead to a new life map. ”
