As a Google Home user who has never touched an Amazon Echo or Alexa product in the last 10 years, this news I’m about to share doesn’t apply to me. But did you know? This is a big deal and goes beyond my personal technical situation. So, Echo folks, let’s do a first bump and talk about the new Alexa app.
Amazon today announced a major redesign of the Alexa app, bringing new customization options and all smart home controls “at your fingertips.” It also looks like an identical copy of the new Google Home app, but let’s not get into that.
The new Alexa app includes: shortcut bar At the top of the app, everything is organized by category, which means buttons that give you access to all your smart lights, routines, alarms, or music controls. This bar also shows the number of lights on, temperature, etc.
The next section is activity panel This indicates time-sensitive information and could mean a reminder for an upcoming alarm. Following that, Favorites section Camera snapshots, individual smart home items you’ve selected as favorites, and more.
if necessary alexa, There’s also a dedicated Alexa button in the bottom right corner that lets you access device controls via chat or voice.a device The panel lists everything. device You can also place bets by group and filter by device type.
Finally, there’s a new map view, currently only available for iOS devices. With your iPhone, you can scan and create a digital version of your home’s floor plan and pin your connected devices to part of it. I’m not sure how useful this is, but it’s kind of handy. That’s what I want to do.
