The City of Toccoa welcomes the Christmas season with its annual Christmas Fest in the historic downtown area during the first weekend of December. This magical event will be held from 5pm to 9pm and will feature Toccoa’s Christmas tree and the historic courthouse lawn lit up. Christmas Sage Shop at her market and celebrate her birthday as Carol roams the streets. Ride a horse-drawn carriage or the Polar Express train, then lace up your skates at a local ice rink. When you’re ready to move indoors, vote for your favorite Christmas tree at Festival of Trees inside Tucker Hall, 59 West Doyle Street.

The Town of Tallulah Falls will light up its floating Christmas tree on Friday, December 1st. The evening’s events begin at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner at City Hall, 255 Main Street. After dinner there will be a bonfire (weather permitting) and tree lighting at Lake Talulah at 7 p.m. Please bring ornaments to help decorate the tree.

Tour a West End mansion decked out in holiday decorations and learn about Victorian Christmas traditions from instructors dressed in festive 1870s costumes. Across the street is an Indian mound with a landmark gazebo. Open houses on Friday and Saturday nights in December will be highlighted by twinkling candlelight and live music. Outside, you can ride the wagon, enjoy carols, and enjoy s’mores. Please check the website for admission fees. Children 5 and under are free.

Travel back in time and immerse yourself in charm and history as you tour beautifully decorated homes this holiday season. Friends of the White County Public Library will host a holiday tour on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All homes and locations on this self-guided tour are located in the Sautee Nachochee Valley. Tour of Homes wristbands are $30 each or $50 for two. All proceeds will go to the Cleveland Construction Fund for a new library. Wristbands can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com and are tax deductible.

Cleveland will host White County’s 39th annual Christmas in the Mountains Celebration. The event features a holiday market and an illuminated Christmas parade through downtown Cleveland. Free photos with Santa Claus will be held at the White County Chamber of Commerce office, 122 North Main Street, from 3 to 6 p.m. The holiday market begins at 5 p.m. in Cleveland Courthouse Square and features hot chocolates, sweet treats, crafts, and gifts from vendors. Santa will visit Freedom Park in Cleveland for a photo op and tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. And at 7 p.m., the illuminated Christmas parade through downtown Cleveland begins. Organizers say the mountain Christmas celebration will take place rain or shine.
