The Bay Port Inn hosts an interesting themed Christmas party. The restaurant, which dubbed the event the “Walmart Self-Checkout Employee Christmas Party,” welcomes self-checkout employee “colleagues.”
“We talk a lot about how everyone has to scan their groceries,” Paige Sibley said. “My boss saw someone hosting these parties around the state and decided to make it our own.”
Shively was a manager at the Bay Port Inn and started hosting parties with his boss. She said the Bayport Inn has held New Year’s and Christmas parties before, but nothing like this one.
They want people to come dressed up in their pajamas and have a good time, just like when they go to Walmart.
“Mock awards will be given out and people will receive their name badges when they walk in the door,” Sibley said. Special cakes and drinks in Walmart colors will also be available.
Shively added that when they first announced the party, it received much more attention than they expected, with many people commenting on social media and sharing their interest in the party.
“It definitely caused an uproar on social media and was bigger than we expected,” Sibley said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I think it was a really good idea on my boss’s part.”
The party will be held at the Bay Port Inn, 827 Promenade St., Bay Port, on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. To contact the restaurant, call 989-656-4053 or visit its Facebook page to register to attend the event if you are interested.
