Darryl Ray Woods, a 60-year-old Houston man, is facing criminal charges after his arrest at a Cleveland Walmart store on Nov. 11.
Cleveland Police Chief Darrell Broussard said Woods allegedly stole three watches, clothing and a bicycle light, which he hid in a backpack taken from the store. The theft was reported to Cleveland PD by a Walmart asset protection officer, who reportedly detained the suspect as he attempted to leave the store.
Officer Crisanto of the Cleveland Police Department was dispatched to the store and arrived as Woods was reportedly leaving the store’s asset protection office. Crisanto reportedly grabbed the topic and a fight ensued. Cleveland Police Officer Scott arrived on the scene and assisted Crisanto in restraining Woods’ hands. Woods was then placed in a patrol car and officers continued their investigation.
Broussard said an asset protection officer reportedly witnessed Woods selecting three watches in the store’s watch section. He then picked up a backpack from the shelf, went to the men’s clothing department, and began hiding items. Woods reportedly also selected jeans, a shirt, shoes, gloves, and a bike light.
“Darryl then proceeded to the side of the grocery store and went through the self-check without attempting to pay for the item. Darryl went through every department without paying for the item,” Broussard said. Told.
More items were reportedly found inside Woods’ sweater.
Woods was taken into custody and transported to the Cleveland Police Department Jail, where he was charged with theft of property over $2,500, with two or more prior convictions. Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ralph Fuller set his bail at $10,000. Woods was then transported to the Liberty County Jail.
The amount stolen and recovered was $209.18, Broussard said.
